Der Forscher Overgard (Mads Mikkelsen) befindet sich nach einem Flugzeugabsturz in der Eiswüste der Arktis in aussichtsloser Lage. Die junge Co-Pilotin (Maria Thelma Smaradottir) überlebt den Crash schwer verletzt, während ihr Kompagnon ums Leben kommt. Overgard nimmt sich der Frau an und versucht sie aufzupäppeln, doch sie erlangt nur sporadisch das Bewusstsein und droht zu sterben – aber immerhin zieht er aus dem havarierten Hubschrauber einige nützliche Ausrüstungsgegenstände.
